Domain Name

Euphoric: A feeling of great happiness or well-being.
Realms: A community or territory over which a sovereign rules; a kingdom.

Because I'm not that creative with names, thinking of a domain name was actually quite hard...much harder than I expected it to be. I didn't want to have a domain name that sounded cheesy, nor did I wanted a name that was centered around me as the site was intended for me and my friends. I eventually came up with the name, Euphoric Realms and bought the domain name on the 18th of January, 2005. So, after having it for almost a year, do I have any regrets with the name? Not really, although I did wished that I didn't have that hyphen in there.

Domain History

Euphoric Realms was opened on the 1st of March, 2005 after almost three months of delay. Because it's fairly new, it doesn't really have much of a history.

The domain was originally intended to be the new home for my personal site but I decided to turn it into something that me and my friends could use. After throwing some ideas around, we ended up turning it into a personal web hosting service for not only my friends, but for anyone who also wishes to have their own websites hosted.

The site has gone through a lot of changes since it opened, with pages being added and removed, only to return once again. It has been used as a 'guinea pig' for various scripts and hacks with some still being used (IE 5 Mac stylesheet hack, disabling styles, etc).

Since the closure of my personal website, this site has started to become the new home of my artistic work, mainly in the arts of photography. However, amongst all these changes, the hosting service still exists and will continue to do so.

Geek Details

This site was created using skEdit for coding, Adobe Photoshop CS for image editing, and uploaded using Transmit. The journal is powered by Wordpress while everything else is handcoded. It was designed with web standards in mind, and every page should validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS 2.0. This site should be accessible to all browsers, and has the option of disabling stylesheets for a more flexible viewing.

Hosting is done by Netfirms. They offer good plans at cheap prices and although there's still improvements to be made (where's my mod-rewrite?!), I have found the service to be reliable. A good choice for someone starting in web design/development with a tight budget.
